June 18 to July 2, 2016
Two weeks of Modern with two amazing instructors:
- Ang Banchero-Kelleher, Modern technique and composition
- Maxine Steinman, Modern technique (Limòn focus), rep and site-specific dancemaking
Special guest instructor: the incomparable Vic diMonda of The Ailey Extension, New York City.
Prepare to hone all your technical and performance skills! Vic will be teaching his killer "Technique Builder for all Styles" class in addition to Theatre Dance choreo. The end of the second week will feature an Audition Lab to give you a real-world taste of professional auditions.
Our beloved Leonarda Raimondi will be back in week two with her mix of good humour and great material for those who'd like a bit of ballet.
Tuscan Summer Dance Intensive is for advanced dancers who want to expand their technical and artistic capabilities in an intimate setting with lots of personal mentoring.
The program features:
- Internationally reknowned and local instructors
- Performance opportunities, inclluding site-specific dancemaking at the seaside
- Beautiful location right on the Mediterranean coast of Tuscany
- Genuine cultural experience in small-town Italy
If a genuine cultural experience in Italy appeals to you, Livorno is for you! Located on a dramatic section of the Tuscan coast not far from Pisa and Florence, Livorno is a lively port town where you will find la bella vita in its truest form.
Florence. Pisa. Lucca. Cinque Terre. The Sea.
From our central location in Livorno you can easily reach many destinations in Tuscany:
- Florence, 75 min by train
- Pisa, 20 min by train
- Lucca, 40 min by train
- Cinque Terre*, 2 hrs by train
Even Rome is only about a 3 hour train ride away! (We suggest you fly into or out of Rome and spend a few days visiting The Eternal City.)
*We will organize a day trip to Cinque Terre for interested dancers, after your arrival in Livorno. (Approximate cost of train and ferry tickets, 50 Euro.)
Here in Livorno we'll enjoy the scene at the seaside, heading down to Calafuria at the end of the first week of dancing (maybe even sooner!) for sun and swimming followed by cocktails and dancing under the stars.
Florence & Pisa
La Bella Vita Arts Workshops came to life in 2006 and our first workshop in Tuscany took place the following summer. We've come a long way since then, but the program is still very much an experience off the beaten path, in harmony with the way the director prefers to explore the world.
